Overview

Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Taman Bukit Maluri, Kuala Lumpur, Restaurant Kok Hing (国兴河鱼饭店) stands out as a gem for lovers of authentic Chinese cuisine. This humble yet inviting eatery specializes in a variety of traditional flavors, with its Fish Head Meehon taking center stage as a must-try dish. Freshness shines through every bite, especially in their fish offerings like the soy-steamed grouper, which comes tender and naturally sweet—highlighting the kitchen’s commitment to quality ingredients.

The menu extends beyond fish, offering a range of homely classics such as the Horse Grass Chicken, 清炒香麦 (stir-fried fragrant wheat), and House-made tofu, balancing flavors and textures. Complementing these are vegetable choices like sweet potato leaves, delivering both freshness and nutritional value to the meal. The dried wan tun mee with BBQ pork and the rich curry mee also showcase the depth and variety available, appealing to diverse palates.

From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere feels warm yet efficient, accentuated by comfortable air-conditioning—ideal for Kuala Lumpur's tropical climate. The dining area, though modest, is well maintained and arranged to facilitate a relaxed yet lively dining experience. It suits family gatherings, casual meals with friends, or even business lunches, catering primarily to diners who appreciate genuine homestyle Chinese dishes without pretense.

Perhaps one of Kok Hing’s most admirable qualities is its attentive service, often praised by patrons. The lady boss is known for her friendly and patient approach, especially when explaining daily specials or recommending dishes tailored to your preferences. Tea refills happen seamlessly, enhancing the overall hospitality and leaving guests feeling truly cared for. Despite busy hours, the staff maintain impeccable manners and efficiency, helping the space feel welcoming even during peak times.

The blend of well-prepared, generous portions and approachable service makes Restaurant Kok Hing a reliable choice in the Bukit Maluri community. Solid chinese food spot in bukit maluri area. Younger owner daughter is the more considerate and transparent one when recommending dishes to order based on my experience.

10 June, 2023: Food taste is very, very good, serving size is generous, price is reasonable and dining area is comfortably air-conditioned (if one comes early or makes reservations). And the service - the service is out-of-the-world, six-star superb. Even at the busiest of moments, the servers and managers/bosses remain courteous, friendly, helpful and polite. Extremely so! They may be a bit rushed, but the manners remains impeccable. When not crowded, they even come check if you are ok, if the food is good, and even refill the tea automatically. A friend recommended this place on 12 May, 2023. Today is 10 June, 2023 and it's already my third visit. There will be many more.

First time dined in and feeling impressed with their food quality and service. Superb and reasonable price. 3 big dishes ( all meat) less than 100 and I think can fit for 4 pax

Love the food here. The lady boss taking the order is very friendly and explains the daily specials very patiently. We ordered the soy steamed grouper, ginger duck noodles, tofu and vege. The fish was very fresh and sweet. It was tender and juicy as well. The ginger duck noodles was al dente aand very tasty.

Love the signature 马草鸡 (grassfed chicken) that is served with a side of fragrant Bentong Ginger and scallion oil. They do their vegetables well in all the times I've eaten here. This time they fried spinach in garlic and it was just right. An appetising pork and chive cutlet set of 6 will not go wrong. Food here reminds me of good homecooking. I think the cooks have pedigree. I am told that their original shop is in Bentong and they do noodles and chicken rice there. You can also get grassfed chicken eggs here.
